33' Brake Composite (with Saloon) c.1912

Around 1912 the Family Saloons of 1896 and 1898 were rebuilt into Brake Composites by sealing up one door of the Luggage Compartment pair, the communicating door and providing Guards facilities, including end lookout windows. These fascinating vehicles have First class and Second class compartments, a Saloon, a toilet and a short linking corridor, all in a 33' vehicle! In late 1918 they were reclassified again, as Brake Firsts, and were used in Race Specials comprised of Firsts from the 6 wheel Block Sets of 1901.
