MacNee’s
This type of Hand Point Lever was known to exist from about 1880. Their
operation was interesting – to throw the points the handle is
pulled outwards a couple of inches to unlock then, pushed over ‘top
dead centre’ – only the weight of the lever and counterweight
has to be lifted. As the handle falls over the other side, it hits the
large protrusion on the cheek of the cam and, through the crank, moves
the point blade – the handle is pushed back into the recess to
relock it.
This types of lever was still in operation around the system in the
1940s, but by the 50s were only in use in remote and little used places.
