Parcels Barrow
(7mm & 4mm)
These
‘heavy’ barrows were an enlarged version of the standard
Luggage Barrow. They were longer, quite a bit wider and had the sides
and end enclosed with low panels. They were a common site on platforms
particularly at larger stations and were often used for carrying milk
churns, apart from their designated use for parcels. In Southern days,
as repairs were needed the spoked wheels were replaced by solid centres.
Their use continued well into the 1960s and probably well beyond.
