GWR
P7 20 Ton Hopper
The
P7 Hopper was a development of the low sided hopper (not allocated
a type number) which increased the capacity from 12 tons to 20 tons.
Some 420 low sided hoppers were built between 1893 – 1901. Note
that the sides were increased in height, between 1902 - 1906, by 18”
NOT 12 “as shown in some reference books! Various types of brake
were fitted including vacuum (which necessitated hanging the cylinder
from the solebar). The SBM kit covers all known variations (except
the low sided version).
